On 24 November, curator Anneka French presents Important Artefacts in the final ARC of 2010. The exhibition draws on the history of site as a place for keeping objects of value, including paintings, works on paper, installation, live work, projection and text.
It seeks to address the idea of collecting as a process of investigation or accumulation, the idea of collections as things to display, and of the collector as someone driven by a particular passion.
Artists exhibiting work are Matthew Andrews, Jane Morrow, Tutte Newall, Tim Robottom, Molly Rooke and Joanne Masding, who you can read a bit more about on ARC’s website.
ARC is taking place at The Vaults from 6-8pm, entry is free.
Bawdyville promises to be an evening of fun, frolics and titillation(!?) With absurdly arresting gestures, one-on-one performances and installation laced with a healthy dose of humor and frivolity.
If this all sounds rather intriguing, maybe this post on Area will give you an idea of the kind of people Companis are.
Drop by from 6 – 8pm, when there’ll also be free cocktails – if you can catch one!
After their efforts to change Moseley’s art scene back in 2004, with a programme of exhibitions, and the packed-out show ‘Made in Moseley’, Kelly and Lisa are ‘reconnecting’ once more, relishing the opportunity to decorate the Victorian brickwork of the bar with their latest artworks.
ARC takes place on the last Wednesday of the month, showcasing work selected by guest curators. This months ARC is on 25 August, 6-8PM at The Vaults (Jewellery Quarter), and has been curated by Laura Coult.
an exhibition of artist’s moving image, performance, and sculpture exploring the ways in which we experience sound as light, movement, noise, and colour.

Happening upon the 31st day of March in the year 2010. Holly Grange and Kate Pennington-Wilson are on curation duty:
For one night only the catacombs of The Vaults will be flooded with sonic reverberations inspired by the lives, past and present, of this renovated Victorian building. The mute histories contained within the walls will surrender their silence and seep out into your ears.
Artists include: Sarah Farmer, Rob Glover, EL Heath, Scott Johnston (aka Film Ficciones), Matt Eaton (of Pram)and Candice Jacobs.
The exhibition will be followed by a DJ set and archival footage from Birmingham-based music promoters COLOUR.

The Vaults Bazaar brings together a selection of regional and national artists that TROVE invited to take part in this exhibition. Each offering a different proposal of work, each vault will be different from classic painting through film to performance, a truly bizarre mix.
Artists on show on the 24th will include Jane Ball, Graham Chorlton, Coco DeVille, Caitlin Griffiths, Daniel Lehan, Bigid McLeer, Milk,Two Sugars, Paul Newman, Elizabeth Short and Steve Varndell.
I’d not heard of Swishing before – seems it’s a kind of fancy swap shop. HOX Boutique (who run a fairly new shop on Corporation Street) will be holding a Swishing event on Saturday 28 Nov at The Vaults in the Jewellery Quarter.
It’ll start at 2pm which is when ladies can go along and hand in their unwanted items. There’ll be free drinks, games and DJ-related fun. At 3.30pm HOX are putting on a fashion show and after that ladies can start shopping (gentlemen are welcome too, but entry’s not free for us – we have to pay a tenner to get in).

The line-up for this year’s Fierce! Festival, the international performing arts festival, has been announced and can be seen on the events page of their newly updated website. You may recall that a significant number of acts were chosen via a public vote and these have now been programmed into the wider festival too.
The opening party will be held at The Vaults on 16 May and promises burlesque cabaret from Miss High Leg Kick and Fierce’s favourite DJ Joe Egg. Entry is free but you’ll need to RSVP as capacity is limited.
In the lead up to the festival there are a few events being held on Wednesdays at 2pm at BIAD:
On 30 April Breathe will be creating “sensory performative experiences in interactive environmments” with The Other Way Works “daring and remarkable theatre that draws the audience into the very heart of the experience.
Finally, on 14 May it’s the conceptual artist Yara El-Shirbini and trans-disciplinary artist Jiva Parthipan who will take the stage.
I’ll go into the specifics of this year’s festival a little nearer the time but the main programme runs from 21 to 31 May, with a bewildering array of shows and events in that time.
