Wordpress.com is the blogger equivalent - instant setup, easy to post and manage content and you get a blog at myname.wordpress.com At Wordpress.org there is a free downloadable version of the software for people who feel comfortable with technical things or who want to customise their blog to a large extent. Blogger is simple less feature-rich. Both "do the job" in that they structure your stuff and provide the requisite outputs. If you just want to write it's much of a muchness really.
